Your Acer most likely has a *software* controlled fan. And naturally the software, "Acer Empowering Software" only runs on vista, so XP converts have the same problem.

I’ve never tried this in Kubuntu. It sounds to me like another package manager might have been running. I would try to restart the computer then install it through Add / Remove Programs. Hopefully that will give a more meaningful error message if it fails.

I did your instruction, but in the first step I can’t install pptp plugin. My kubuntu show me this message: "Could not get locked /va/lib/dpkg/lock -open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable).

I’m glad it helped someone out. I certainly wish that vendors themselves would publish things like this on their websites. Poor users like us just have to band together and document their mistakes.

Good ole minitab, yeah i used it back at uni (college) during a statistics course. ah, the good old days.

Thanks for documentation of your obscure issue. I had the exact same issue with a completely different product, with the same workaround! You’ve saved me many hours.

I have the same hardware and CentOS 5.2 installs OK with this:

linux pci=conf1

try this! i read a lot to found this!!!

works the same with suse 10.3 !!!!

Brian, I also live in Circleville, I am a member of Snow Trails Ski Patrol and Pike County OHC. I am considering setting up a cache for horse back riders in Pike Lake Forest. I need information on how to do that. Can you help?

Hi Steve,
I haven’t had a chance to play with FC9 yet on one of these laptops. Once I do I’ll update the guides or post new ones. For now I couldn’t even guess as to what has changed, it seems like most of the HP laptop are a pain when it comes to wireless.

Symptom: CentOS 5, Fedora Core 5, and possibly RHEL5 the install hangs with the message ACPI: Assume root bridge [\_SB_PCI0] bus is 0

Solution: Start the install process with: linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf

I have tried this solution but CentOs gives me te same problem:ACPI: Assume root bridge [\_SB_PCI0] bus is 0 and then is hangs. I there an other solution for this problem? Thx
